SIGNS OF SPRING
March 10, 2010Gas prices are shooting up as fast as Spring flowers. The Oregon average for a gallon of regular went up six cents last week to $2.87, according to the Oregon AAA. Another sign of Spring happens this Sunday, when we set clocks ahead an hour. By the way, the state’s Fire Marshal is asking you to test your smoke detector batteries when you change the hands on that clock. Just testing the batteries is recommended these days, not automatically replacing them. That’s because many detectors have lithium batteries that last ten years.

A Lesson in Socialism
March 8, 2010An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.
That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked & that no one would be poor & no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”.

Wetsuits With Style
May 25, 2009Wetsuits are usually plain…black…boring. Well, one designer isn’t too happy about that and has set out to change the face of the scene by adding some texture.

Diddo has applied various textures to wetsuits using “custom inks and unique printing techniques” to create something new. Although I’ve never surfed, wake boarded or done any such activity that requires a wet suit, I do have to say these are quite exciting. There are examples of suits bearing very fitting textures—a whale shark’s skin and the muscles of the human body. As well as more unique and humorous—rusting metal and a simulated shark attack!

Hot Site of the Day: HARLEM-13-GIGAPIXELS.COM
May 22, 2009How much megapixel goodness does your camera have? 8 megapixel? 12 megapixel? What if your camera was 13 GIGApixel?!?
Okay, okay, so this is isn’t really a gigapixel camera, but a stitch of 2045 photos that are 12 megapixel images. Still very cool, however. Head on over to HARLEM-13-GIGAPIXELS.COM and check this out. The 2045 images are stitched together to create one seamless image of Harlem, taken from the rooftop of a building on the corner of 7th Avenue and 110th Street in New York City.
Be sure to hit the “Switch to HD View” for an even better demonstration than Flash can pull off. That does require a plugin from Microsoft to be installed, but I promise it is worth it. The HD View plugin makes panning through the image butter smooth.

Samsung Alias 2 Uses E-paper Keys
May 20, 2009On yesterday’s Morning Show I mentioned the new version of Samsung’s Alias phone, appropriately named the Alias 2. This phone is significant because it uses so called “e-paper” or “e-ink” displays for each of the keys. This allows the keys to change what is printed on them depending on what you’re using the phone for at the time.
If you’re making a call, the phone will display the standard numeric 10-key layout found on the majority of phones. If you’re typing out a text message or e-mail, the keys will show up as the QWERTY layout we all know from our home computers. It even lets you cycle through sets of symbols.
Phone Scoop created a demonstration video showing off the Alias 2, check it out below. The keyboard’s fancy feats get shown off starting around 1:10 into the video.

More From Microsoft: SecondLight
May 19, 2009Last week I shared Microsoft’s Home of the Future with you, today…you’ve gotta check out their SecondLight demonstration.
Have you ever seen, in person or video, those glass doors that can become frosted glass when electricity is applied to them? Well Microsoft has employed something very similar, along with two projectors, to create a system that allows a computer to display two sets of information to the viewer.
When the glass is “frosted”, the image from one projector appears on the surface. When the glass is clear, it lets the image from the other projector through. So long as there is another surface above the “screen”, that surface will show the image from the second projector! Kinda hard to explain in words, but the video explains it very well!

I’ve Gotta Get One of These!
May 18, 2009Eric Scott may well be insane, but I guess that makes me crazy too, because I’m thinking I’ve gotta make myself a hydrogen peroxide jetpack. Eric attempted to set a Guinness World Record at Scotland’s Knockhill Racing Circuit using just such a pack. He reached 68 miles per hour cruising along the raceway. Check out the video!
