Another Amazing Time Lapse Video

I’ve been following Ross Ching’s work for quite some time now and he produces amazing time lapse landscape videos. To top it off, he releases HD versions, 720p and even 1080p, for everyone to view. If you haven’t had the chance to experience true HD video, look at this.

For his latest video, Eclectic 3.0, Ross used a photography technique known as “tilt-shift” to produce images which appear as though the subjects are miniature models. The human eye can be “tricked” into seeing cars, houses and people as though they are tiny miniatures.

Check out the 720p and 1080p HD videos at his website.

IBM Takes on Jeopardy!

Bad puns and references to Sherlock Holmes aside, here’s a great video discussing IBM’s “Watson” computer system. Watson is a project dedicated to creating a computer system which is intelligent enough to be competitive on the game show Jeopardy! Personally, I’m excited and would love to see a showdown between Watson and Ken Jennings similar to the Deep Blue versus Kasparov chess battle. (Hey Jeopardy! producers, are you listening? Please, make it so!)

Behold the Breakdancin’ Baby

Here’s a video showcasing the amazing talents of one little tyke who I’ll put my bets on for having one heck of a dancing career ahead of him.

Timescapes – WOW!

While I was getting the last post together, I noticed that Phil, author of Bad Astronomy, had posted an amazing video that I just have to help spread. I’ve done some time lapse photography myself…and it didn’t turn out well. So I have to give kudos to Tom @ Timescapes for the amazing quality of work. I hope you enjoy this visual wonderland as much as I did. Take a peek!

This House…Slides?

I just found this over at Home-Designing and I was immediately blown away. Sliding House, by dRMM Architecture, does just what its name implies—it slides! The wood exterior of the home slides back to reveal a greenhouse-esque interior that allows in all the sun you can handle.

Definitely check out the rest of the photos, including some stunning shots of the house at night and during winter!

What Is Nanotechnology, Anyways?

The American Chemical Society recently held their “What is Nano?” video contest where submissions had to describe nanotechnology—how it affects our society and the world around us. Well, the winner has been picked and, at least for this geek, it is hilarious! Since I mention nanotechnology on the Morning Show quite often, I figured this might be a helpful and fun introduction.

More Crazy Traffic!

Well, we showed you how crazy traffic can be in India, but that’s nothing compared to this. Keep an eye on the through lane on the right. It is very easy to miss the little black car slipping across the intersection through traffic!

Crazy Traffic in India!

On the Morning Show we discussed some research into the way ants mitigate their traffic problems. This video of traffic in India came to mind. Although it looks chaotic by American standards of traffic control, things seem to move along quite smoothly… Hope you enjoy it!

World’s Largest Model Train: Miniatur Wunderland

We mentioned this yesterday on the Morning Show and I was able to track down this video showing off the Miniatur Wunderland model railway in all its wonderful glory.

A few stats: 700 trains, 10,000 carriages, 900 signals, 2,800 buildings, 160,000 individually designed figures and 250,000 lights! Quite the train set!

Florida Teen Helps His Dad With Job Search

When Florida resident Mark Gullett lost his position as the Tampa Bay Lightning’s vice president of marketing, his son came to the rescue. Ben Gullett quickly set out to create a “montage” of all his father’s traits which make him a great choice for any company to hire. A heartwarming story, the video is quite touching. Take a peek!

Boston Dynamics’ Big Dog Gets Weaponized!

This morning we mentioned Boston Dynamics’ “Big Dog” project growing a pair of horns. For those who are unfamiliar with Big Dog, it is a project backed by DARPA to provide a mobile robotics platform that can tackle nearly any terrain. Take a peek and enjoy the fun!

Extreme Sheep LED Art!

Check out this amazing video put together by some very creative sheep herders. It starts out a bit slow, but soon you get to see their creativity shine. Using LEDs to light up the sheep at night, they create various animations by herding the sheep into position. This is similar to how animated movies like Wallace & Gromit are created. Stop motion sheep animation, how unique!

Oregon Biologists’ Research Make Shrimp Famous On YouTube

Marine biologists David Scholnick of Pacific University and his research partner Louis Burnett have been studying shrimp. In their research the two biologists were studying the effect of fatigue on the shrimp. So what better way is there to tire a shrimp than by putting it on a treadmill? Take a video and add a snappy pop song and you’ve got instant YouTube success!
