Narcotics Seizure- Albany Police Department
March 31, 2016On Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Albany Police Street Crimes Detectives arrested 20-year-old Jefferson resident Shane Thomas Becktold during a traffic stop in the 100 block of Main Street in Jefferson. The arrest was part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.
Shane Becktold, the driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody without incident on unrelated Linn County Justice Court and Lebanon Municipal Court warrants. As a result of this investigation, detectives seized a dealer quantity of heroin, methamphetamine, diverted pharmaceutical pills, over $5000 in U.S. currency, scales, and related drug paraphernalia from Shane Becktold’s vehicle.
Shane Becktold was lodged in the Linn County Jail on the following charges:
* Unlawful Possession of Heroin * Unlawful Delivery of Heroin * Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine

Fatal Fire under investigation
March 24, 2016Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to 2652 Silverfalls Dr SE on the report of a mobile home fire. Fire Personnel from the Drakes Crossings Fire Department had already extinguished the fire and transported 2 people from the location. One male in his 20’s was transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital by air ambulance and the other, which was a juvenile male was transported to Salem Hospital by ambulance.
Deputies secured the scene and requested additional resources for the investigation, which is on-going. There were 2 deceased people located in the mobile home, one was a female in her 20’s and the other, a juvenile male. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but the initial information does not show evidence of criminal activity.
It is still early in the investigation and the process of gathering evidence in these types of situations is slow. We are not releasing the names of the involved people until family members are notified.

OSP Continuing fatal crash investigation on HWY 20
March 24, 2016On March 23, 2016 at about 3:30PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two vehicle crash on Highway 20 near milepost 20 (just west of Sweet Home near Ingram Road).
Preliminary information revealed a 2015 Mack semi-truck towing a chip trailer had been traveling westbound on Highway 20 when it came to a stop in the slow lane, waiting to make a right turn from the highway. The truck had to yield to a passing train, which tracks parallel Highway 20.
While waiting for the train, the truck was rear-ended by a westbound 2005 Dodge Caravan operated by Elmer D FRY, age 80, of Sweet Home. Upon emergency crews arriving on scene, FRY was pronounced deceased. According to witness statements, FRY made no attempts to brake or avoid colliding with the truck. The driver of the Mack truck, Joel P HASS, age 41, of Sheridan, was not injured.
The westbound lanes of Highway 20 were closed for approximately four hours following the crash. OSP was assisted by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Sweet Home Fire Department, Lebanon Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
